Map of Faevenly for Fae Away!

Check it out!! Faevenly has a map, and I LOVE IT! I hope you do, too!

Just about every fantasy book has a map, and when I started writing Fae Away, I knew I wanted one! Luckily for me, I have an amazing friend, Hanna Sandvig, who’s an illustrator, and her stuff is AMAZING! So I knew my vision would be in good hands.

The problem was, I didn’t exactly know what I wanted. Other than, I definitely wanted my faerie realm to overlay the human realm. So when I started writing, I printed a blank map of the United States and had it next to me. As my story started taking shape, I started filling in the map. The first things that went in were the fae provinces. Then, I wanted to use some natural landmarks but give them fae-ish names. The Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean became the Evening Sea and the Morning Sea; and the Gulf of Mexico became the Great Cove. Those sounds fae-ish, right?

Another thing I did was look for real world inspiration for the houses of each province. Now that was fun! Celyse, my fae princess, is the daughter of the High King and HIGH Queen of Faevenly. They live in Strong Haven East and I wanted that to be the biggest palace, so the inspiration for that was the Palace of Versailles in France.

I wanted everything else to mirror actual places in the US. For Strong Haven West, the inspiration was Francis House in California. For High Meadow, the inspiration was Salisbury House in Iowa. For Cuesta, the inspiration was Wadley Farms Castle in Utah. For Sand Bluff the inspiration was Falkenstein Castle in Texas. Lastly, for Summit Range the inspiration was the Biltmore Chateau in North Carolina. Pretty neat, huh? I bet you didn’t know there was a castle in Texas. I didn’t! lol

I could go through each element of the map, but I’ll let you discover the rest of the gems on your own! I hope you enjoy the map, and I hope you enjoy Fae Away!
